Who Jesus is to me

With all the different view points on Christianity and Jesus Christ in this world (not to mention the stereotypes presented by the media) it can be hard to get a grasp of who exactly Jesus is. We know he’s the one who died on the cross for our sins and preached the gospel all his life and that he is the definition of perfect (sorry ladies, the guy you’re dating right now is not the definition of perfect no matter what you think) But how does that correlate with today’s society? Who is Jesus in 2015?

Today’s society seems to have this idea that Christianity is all about what is right or wrong and that all Christians are gay-bashing, bible verse spitting, judgmental crazy people and unfortunately this makes people think that Jesus is the same way. Of course there are people out there that identify as being Christian but only spread the message of hate around  but let me be the first to tell you that is not who Jesus is.

Jesus isn’t yelling on a busy street telling bystanders they’re going to hell, Jesus isn’t degrading and bashing people for not going to church every Sunday, Jesus isn’t hating you for going to that party.

Jesus is almost completely opposite of what typical society tells us he is.

Imagine something that you love unconditionally; it could be a family member, friend, dog, or maybe even pizza. Nothing that thing does will ever change how much you love it. You would do anything in the world for them and you love them more and more everyday. That’s exactly how God feels about you. First off he gave his only son so that our sins can be forgiven (which is still so unimaginable to me yet so absolutely incredible at the same time) Second, he forgives us even in our darkest times. When we’ve made countless mistakes and even denied him, his love for us is still unconditional. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s incredible.

Romans 8:38 and 39 says  “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

So basically…NOTHING AT ALL can separate us from that love He has for us. No sickness, hardship, dark time, or obstacle will EVER lessen his love for us.

I don’t know about you but I’m still not seeing the gay-bashing, yelling, crazy-talking Jesus people keep thinking about anywhere.

So with all of this being said,

Jesus is loving everyone and everything. Jesus is always forgiving. Jesus is literally always there for you even in your darkest times.

People use to always laugh a little when I would pray out loud because I would always start with “Hey Jesus!” as if I was talking to a close friend.

That’s exactly who Jesus is to me. I see Jesus as a close friend. A friend who is always there for me, always has my back, a friend I can talk to about anything without feeling uncomfortable- a friend who loves me for me.

John 15:15 “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”
